Everyone should celebrate Deckard Cain’s replacement in Diablo 4 and watch his lore video

anyone familiar with the world Diablo No doubt he knew the name Deckard Cain. You may have even heard his distinctive voice at some point, even if you don’t know his name.

Deckard Cain is one of Diablo’s long-running characters, effectively serving as the series’ lore scholar. In past games, he’s been your go-to for all lore questions, and his trademark “wait a second, listen” goes hand-in-hand with things like “it’s dangerous to be alone,” though it’s nowhere near as effective as it could be.

Why yes, that’s Connor and I talking about everything we like and don’t like about Diablo 4.

Sadly, Deckard Cain is no longer with us, so Blizzard had to find a new character to replace him as the Horadrim Order in Arcane Lore in Diablo 4 and beyond. Lorath Nahr is the studio’s choice and it’s become a huge hit.

Loras is one of the key characters in the Diablo 4 story. If you’ve played the beta, or any previous Diablo 4 beta, you already know him well. A big part of what everyone loves about him is the showmanship of Ralph Ineson, whose voice and rhythm can’t be misunderstood.

I didn’t know enough about him when I played Diablo 4, and I know Connor likes him too (you can read all about it in his review). Blizzard knew it had a new fan favorite on its hands, so the studio let him be used outside of in-game dialogue.

Enter: The Book of Lorath, a series of lore videos on YouTube in which Lorath narrates the events of the entire series, from creation itself through the events of Diablo 3 and its expansions. The fourth part of it also just dropped.

I mean, look at this!

All of this is essential for new players looking to learn about the Eternal Conflict and learn about the key players in the endless battle at the heart of the Diablo universe. Longtime fans will find they’re also a good refresher, especially for some of the older games in the series. Check out the beautiful screen-filling artwork narrated by Lorath, which definitely rivals the quality of Diablo 4 itself.

Diablo 4 will unlock for early access players in a few hours, with a general release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on June 6.
