Former CD Projekt Red and 11 Bit Studios developers have launched a new studio in Warsaw called Blank.
The studio is developing a character-driven story set in a twisted apocalyptic world.
Says the team has done “huge, super complex games with open worlds” and that it’s focused on simpler goals like uniqueness, emotion, quality, and refinement.
The studio consists of co-founders Mateusz Kanik (Game Director), Jedrzej Mroz (Executive Producer), Marcin Jefimow (Executive Producer) and Mikolaj Marchewka (General Manager).
Michal Dobrowolski is Design Director, Artur Ganszyniec is Narrative Director and Grzegorz Przybys is Art Director.
“After years of working in an increasingly conservative industry, we were ready for bold, impactful projects that shared our unique creativity and values,” Kanik said.
“Where the industry supports the dictatorship of creative individuals, we want to give ownership to the team. Where the industry relies on a culture of overtime, we prefer work-life balance. Where the industry says bigger is better, we are setting Our goal is a highly polished game focused on emotion, story and craftsmanship.”
“Our game development philosophy comes from our own stories and experiences,” Jefimow said. “With Blank, we wanted to create a space where we could honor our history and have fun and embrace fresh inspiration as we collaborate creatively.
“We’ve got a head start on an up-and-coming new project that we can’t wait to share with players and produce with our new team members.”
The studio is “eagerly looking forward” to sharing what it’s working on and will do so in due course. Until then, you can check out some teaser images above.
The studio currently has 10 team members, but it hopes to expand to nearly 60 to support the development of unannounced projects.
