You may know that, but Two years ago, Facebook launched a mobile gaming app intended to rival Twitch and YouTube. Its name: Facebook Gaming. Good to know that the story of this app will be short-lived as the meta group just announced the closure of their cellular service.
Too much competition
When it launched in 2020, Facebook Gaming’s number one goal was to overshadow Twitch and Youtube. In this application, users could consume and interact with a variety of content related to video games. The latter allowed, among other things, to watch streams, organize tournaments or even play games.although the latter never made it to the iOS version due to inconsistencies in the App Store rules.
We might have thought at the time that the launch timing was perfect for boosting the stats of this new application, but it wasn’t. With the pandemic raging and multiple lockdowns, consumers turned to the platforms they already knew, like Twitch and YouTube. And if we know the weight of the two giants in the streaming industry, in fact, the battle was almost lost beforehand.
An end in blood sausage
Recently, when opening Facebook Gaming on a mobile device, the application warns that from October 28, 2022 it will no longer be available on iOS and Android. On the other hand, the web version of the service continues to function normally in the games section of Facebook.
Note that until October 28th it will still be possible to use the application normally and download it from the App Store or the Play Store.. As we mentioned above, There’s no official explanation as to why the Facebook gaming app was shut down, but there’s almost no doubt the competition had something to do with it.
