The love of animals is unconditional, especially when it comes to pets like dogs and cats. It’s something that Bethesda wanted to transfer to Fallout 4’s Meatball, a dog we found in the Red Rocket Gas Station and who becomes our first companion. He is one of the few in the game, perhaps the only one, who will follow us without making complaints or objections to our actions.
Meatball literally goes out of his way for us: he fights with all his might and even finds items during the adventure. In fact, we can order it to find specific objects within a certain radius of action. This got a lot of players thinking back in 2015 and a small glitch was found that should still work… although it may be a bit resistant.
I’m sure most of you have noticed that the Overseer’s Office of Vault 111, which we explored even before surfacing, has a shelf closed by a very high level of lock-picking skill, too high for any new player. It is normal to return after a few hours of playing, although Meatball’s magical abilities can speed up the process.
Some players discovered that our dog companion’s love is so great that he can even go through high-level locks to get us the weapon Cryolator, one that is very good to have from the beginning. All you have to do is lock yourself with Meatball in the small warehouse and ask him to look for objects. She stares at the gun until it magically appears in her mouth. She may resist, but he ends up getting her.
