Well, as expected, Fallout 4’s next-gen update was released yesterday, although its deployment was far from issue-free. The most notable of these is an issue that prevents people who previously purchased the game through PlayStation Plus from being able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free. Bethesda says they’re working to rectify the issue, but in the meantime, players are left with nothing to do.
If you’re just catching up, Fallout 4’s next-gen update brings the game to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and also includes some graphical tweaks and platform-specific bug fixes. It also comes bundled with a ton of free Creator Club content.

Unfortunately, when PlayStation players who previously purchased the PS4 version of the game through PlayStation Plus tried to upgrade it to the new PS5 version for free (which they were told they could do), this is what happened. Only received the option to purchase the PS5 version separately. Of course, this caused some backlash, especially considering that for those who upgraded in a similar manner on Xbox, the process seemed to work as expected.
Bethesda was quick to respond, telling those experiencing issues that they didn’t need to purchase the new version, but rather wait until the issue was corrected with the free upgrade.
