Wastelanders is the largest free update for Fallout 76 to date, which brings many small but above all big innovations to the game. We present you the five most important ones.
1. People come back
One of the biggest criticisms of Fallout 76 was the lack of NPCs, human characters and quest givers. Almost the entire story was told in Fallout 76 by robots or holo tapes. With Wastelanders, people are finally coming back to Appalachia. Looking for home, but of course also treasure and wealth. There is also a completely new, extensive questline in which you will meet many of the new NPCs and do tasks for them. But be careful, not all new residents are friendly.

2. New dialogue system
With the new NPCs, the familiar dialog system from previous Fallout games is also returning. You now have several options and can decide in which direction the conversations will develop. But be careful, the decisions have a direct impact on the other person. If you are too direct or unfriendly, the situation can escalate and you suddenly look into the mouth of a shotgun.
The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. skills are also very important in the new dialogue system. For example, you need a certain rank in "Charisma" to talk yourself out of a tricky situation, or in "Intelligence" to get a password from a not too smart bandit.

3. NPCs for C.A.M.P.
There are also important changes for the warehouse, the C.A.M.P. It is now possible to get NPCs to join their own camp. Of course, this has great advantages. On the one hand, the NPCs protect the camp when it is attacked, on the other hand, they offer daily quests with which you can regularly earn experience and bottle caps.
To recruit an NPC, you must successfully complete your story quest. You can only have one NPC in your C.A.M.P. have, but don't worry, the different NPCs can be changed at any time.

4. Fractions
With the new update, two factions come into play. The "Settlers" and the "Raiders". There are seven ranks for both factions, from “hostile” to “neutral” to “ally”. By completing quests you can increase your rank to buy new weapons and items from faction traders. There are even very special blueprints to get hold of. Both factions are in large outposts, which are reminiscent of small towns. Here comes a feeling of normalcy again.

5. New events
There are two big new events that you can face. At the "passenger event" you have to accompany a caravan through a mountain tunnel and protect it against constant attacks from opponents. If you dare, you can briefly move away from the caravan to collect lost supplies, but great care must be taken because the caravan is defenseless in the meantime.
At the "radiation beating event", your looters protect you from recovering ore from a landfill. Constant attacks by mutants don't make this easy. You also have to wear a radiation protection suit because the radioactive radiation is very high here.
At both events it is advisable to work in a team with other players – solo it will be a very big challenge. If the events are successfully completed, there is of course plenty of reward to be won.
