Fallout: London, the long-awaited total conversion of Fallout 4, seems to have had an excellent start, at least in terms of download numbers.

We had to wait a long time for Fallout: London, especially since the release was delayed again by the next-gen upgrade of Fallout 4 and had to overcome a few hurdles. But now the modification is available and for free on GOG.

And there, Fallout: London apparently got off to a brilliant start. The mod was apparently redeemed more than 500,000 times in the first 24 hours – a record.

“The initial release of Fallout: London quickly became an incredible success – and a prime example of how working with passion and creativity can bring forth a wealth of new, exciting ways to enjoy a game,” said GOG. “Together with the overwhelming support from the player community, we can only congratulate Team Folon on their great launch and groundbreaking record.”

The start was quite bumpy for the players, as a series of bugs and crashes marred the first impression. A first hotfix with the version number 1.01 has already been released and fixes, among other things, bugs in a total of 27 quests.

The modders from Team Folon seem to have gotten a taste for it, because after the release Team Folon announced that they would be founding a new indie studio so that future developments could bring in money.

Team leader Dean Carter said: “We will hopefully start our own indie games company that will allow us to bring in our own ideas, develop our own games and work […]without having to talk to anyone about us, like Bethesda or something. We can make a game that we want and that we think the community will like. Fallout London was a great springboard for that.”

Fallout: London is still going ahead. The team wants to add content that was left behind due to the release, including another ending. The current goal is to implement everything by the end of the year.

When asked whether Bethesda had contacted the team, the surprising answer was no: “That’s strange, because we’ve communicated with other people in the industry who you could probably call their competitors. They’ve reached out to us and we’ve talked to them, but Bethesda themselves haven’t talked to us at all.”
