While Bethesda waits for Fallout 5, it is thinking about what to offer fans. And Obsidian Entertainment has, despite everything, revived the hopes of many members of the community.
The Fallout series has been a huge success. The adaptation was the second most watched show on the platform and attracted millions of new players. However, for Bethesda, there is no question of speeding up the development of the next installment. The publisher is working hard on Starfield expansions and is following a very specific schedule. The Elder Scrolls 6 will be the next game and Fallout 5 will begin development as soon as production of the Skyrim successor is completed. The publisher admitted to having looked for ways to speed things up and give fans something to wait for, so the possibility of outsourcing for the duration of a project is not ruled out. And who better than Obsidian Studio, to whom we owe Fallout New Vegas, to get back in action? The two studios are now in the same stable, anything is possible. Especially if the person concerned is secretly working on an unannounced third game.
Fallout New Vegas 2 or Pillars of Eternity 3? The bets have been placed
Obsidian Entertainment will soon return with Avowed. An RPG with a fake Skyrim feel, set in the Pillars of Eternity universe, expected this fall. At the same time, and despite a rather mixed reception, the studio is working on the sequel to another game of the same genre: The Outer Worlds 2. The information went relatively unnoticed last year, but the developers are working on a third mystery game. A title that Daniel Cabuco has been serving as artistic director for a few weeks. The person concerned has made his talents available to Riot Games in the past and PlayStation recently updated its profile to confirm this third secret project, which of course did not fail to revive the hopes of Fallout fans, which quickly flared up.
The possibility of a Fallout Vegas 2 or another spin-off cannot, of course, be ruled out, especially given the events of the second season of the series and the studio’s liabilities. On the other hand, Obsidian also has its favorite license in its luggage and many gamers hope that behind this mysterious game is a certain Pillars of Eternity 3. Josh Sawyer, who directed the previous installments, recently said, not without humor, that he hoped Microsoft would give it the green light with a budget similar to Baldur’s Gate 3. Perhaps the American giant was finally ready to let go of more than 100 million dollars?
The hypothesis of a more modest game like Pentiment cannot be ruled out, of course, but since rumors say that the Redmond company has validated the game in order to keep the director of Fallout News Vegas in the studio, this seems less likely. At this stage, anything is possible, even a new license. We will have to wait a few years to find out what Obsidian has in mind. On the web, in any case,
And you, what would you prefer? A Fallout game? Pillars of Eternity 3? A brand new license?
