The series adaptation of Fallout starts on Amazon Prime on April 11th and now we can finally get a first impression because there is a trailer that is over three minutes long.
Anyone who has previously wondered whether and how well the Amazon series Fallout captures the atmosphere from the games is now a bit wiser, because Amazon Prime has finally released a first trailer for the series. After all, it only takes five weeks until the series starts. There is also good news: Apparently all eight episodes will be available at the same time on April 11th. So you don’t have to wait for the new episodes every week.
The trailer shows a colorful mix of scenes, starting with Lucy’s first steps outside the Vault, played by Ella Purnell (currently seen in Yellowjackets and known as the voice of Jinx from Arcane). Everything looks a bit more colorful than in the games, but the typical Fallout humor along with some Easter eggs and the beloved music don’t seem to be neglected.
In the series by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy (both known for Westworld) we discover a whole host of familiar faces, including Waltoin Goggins as Cooper Howard and Ghoul, Kyle MacLachlan, Xelia Mendes-Jones, Aixa Kendrick and many more.
We can only hope that the series adaptation can also score points with a good story – unfortunately the trailer doesn’t reveal much in this regard other than the premise that a sheltered Vault 33 resident is sent into a hostile and post-apocalyptic outside world to fight for survival have to fight. The Fallout series is set after the Fallout 3 and 4 games, which certainly gives the creators some freedom.
So let’s wait and see what qualities the series can hopefully score with in the end. Video game series adaptations are a tricky topic – while The Last of Us was a complete winner, The Witcher, for example, is on a downward spiral after it strayed too far from the actual lore and ultimately left Henry Cavill as the main actor.
