Neither fans nor critics were with J.J. Abram's conclusion to the Skywalker saga was too happy. That's why it seems official novel version to try to operate Star Wars: Episode 9 damage control.
The book first clarified how Emperor Palpatine could survive his "death" in Episode 6 – The Return of the Jedi, then the controversy surrounding the "Reylo" romance between Rey and Kylo Ren was alleviated.
Now, another detail from the official novel for Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker makes the round that clarifies a very specific question: How and when could Darth Sidious father a son

The mystery of Palpatine's descendants has been solved
Quite simply: Palpatine's son is not Palpatine's son at all … in the classic sense. In fact, Rey's father is one "Failed" clone of Darth Sidious.
As episode 9 and especially the novel version of episode 9 establish, Palpatine had various clone bodies made in order to be able to transfer his spirit into one of them in the event of his death and thus to avoid death. Snoke, the First Order Supreme Leader, was also one of these clones.
However, most clone bodies were unable to house Palpatine's power and still died during these attempts. The clone that was to become Rey's father
Darth Sidious, however, turned out to be gracious – at least more or less: he let his clone, which would later become Rey's father, live and leave. However, not from noble motifs, but plain and simple, to continue the Palpatines bloodline and pull a potential descendant to the dark side of the Force.

The Sith are (again) their own downfall
Anyone who has already been in the cinema in Episode 9 … or who has done a little Internet research knows that Imperator Palpatine's plans have not worked. Instead of dragging Rey to the dark side of the Force and continuing to live in it, his granddaughter / clone daughter turned against him and destroyed with Darth Sidious the (for now) last of the Sith.
Obviously, Palpatine didn't learn from his failed attempt to corrupt Luke Skywalker any more than he did from his duel with Mace Windu in Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith. Otherwise he might have even expected that Block power flashes with one or at least two lightsabers to let.
