Despite the revelations, Dragon Age 4 seems to reassure fans of the license. However, they risk being disappointed when it comes to one of the most popular characters.

Dragon Age 4 has been named “The Veilguard” to reflect the importance of the companions we will meet in this anticipated sequel. Unfortunately, this risks missing an opportunity that would have excited many fans. At least that’s what BioWare recently confirmed.

Dragon Age 4 would skip one of the license’s main characters

During the Xbox Games Showcase as part of Summer Game Fest 2024, we finally received news about Dragon Age 4 after years of silence. This came in the form of a trailer that introduces the seven companions that will accompany us in our adventures in Thedas. We have Harding the scout, Neve the detective, Lucanis the mage slayer, Bellara the traveler, Emmrich the necromancer, Davrin the guardian, and Taash the dragon hunter. We will be able to build our relationships (both romantic and more platonic) with them and learn more about their history through their personal quests. However, some fans noted that there were no emblematic characters from the license in their ranks. The most notable is that of Hawke.

As a reminder, this is the protagonist that we were able to customize in Dragon Age 2 and who makes a very notable return in Inquisition. To the great dismay of fans, Dragon Age 4 intends to offer a fairly interventionist single-player experience, but rich in narrative and difficult choices that, at least according to BioWare, will not allow us to get back in touch with this character. Depending on the choices made by the players in the previous work, this one could have experienced a completely different fate, dead or alive.

However, BioWare may have other plans for Hawke. His appearance in Inquisition comes pretty late in the story, after all. He could therefore still be alive in Dragon Age 4, biding his time for a notable appearance. But what about Morrigan and other iconic characters from the license? You’ll have to wait until fall on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series to find out.
