What do we know about the new TV series so far?
Specific information about Leslye Headland's new Star Wars project is scarce. The production has not yet been officially confirmed by Disney, but was revealed in the course of a variety report.
All that follows is that the main person behind the Netflix series Matryoshka is developing the War of the Stars project for Disney +. The story is supposed to be one main female character shoot while we learn a new part of the Star Wars timeline.
We currently do not know what the TV series is called, which actors or directors are involved and which characters are the focus. Likewise, there is no information about the start of production or the planned release date on Disney +.
What is The High Republic about?
In February 2020, Disney revealed how Star Wars continues after Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker. Specifically, it was about the new setting of the so-called »High Republic«, the heyday of the Old Republic, long before the rise of the empires.

What speaks against a high republic setting?
At the time of the High Republic unveiling, it was emphasized that no films or TV series on this setting were currently under development. The aim is to preserve the artistic freedom of the authors involved, such as Charles Soule (The Rise of Kylo Ren).
Of course, it would be quite possible that the Leslye Headland project launched after the unveiling of High Republic and Disney is focusing even more on the new setting with a TV series for its in-house streaming service.
However, the THR reporter contradicts this assumption Borys kit: According to him, the deal for the Star Wars project was from Leslye Headland closed months ago – before the official announcement of The High Republic.

The High Republic: No films for the time being
Accordingly, it would make little sense for Disney to refuse possible films or TV series in this setting. It is much more likely that the new project about a female heroine will do its own thing: A new era, a new corner of the galaxy explored in the universe of Star Wars.
