The “Fast & Furious” films have many different titles internationally, but in Japan people got particularly creative. Which movie could be meant by “Wild Speed MEGA MAX”?
- In Germany, the “Fast & Furious” films have quite boring titles – it’s different in Japan!
- The Japanese have known the Fast series as “Wild Speed” from the start.

While titles like “The Fate of the Furious” or “Fast X” show at least a little creativity in the USA, the “Fast & Furious” films in Germany are usually only numbered. The unpopular epithet “Fast & Furious – New model. Original parts.” for part 4 was already the most daring innovation in this country.
In Japan, on the other hand, the distributors were not satisfied with the titles given. Each part of the “Fast & Furious” saga in Japan has its own title, some of which sound significantly better than the originals!
- “The Fast and the Furious” became: “Wild Speed”
- “2 Fast 2 Furious” became: “Wild Speed X2”
- The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift became: “Wild Speed X3: Tokyo Drift”
- “Fast & Furious – New model. Original parts.” became: “Wild Speed MAX”
- “Fast & Furious Five” became: “Wild Speed MEGA MAX”
- “Fast & Furious 6” became: “Wild Speed: Euro Mission”
- “Fast & Furious 7” became: “Wild Speed: Sky Mission”
- “Fast & Furious 8” became: “Wild Speed: Ice Break”
- “Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw” became: “Wild Speed: Super Combo”
- “Fast & Furious 9” became: “Wild Speed: Jet Break”
Apparently it was decided in Japan back in 2001 that “Speed” sounds better than “Fast” and “Wild” is way cooler than “Furious”. Also, Japanese audiences might mistake the movies for a wilder version of the Keanu Reeves-Sandra Bullock movie ‘Speed’.
The Japanese then remained true to the “Wild Speed” titles and divided them into their own small series by multiplying the speed for parts 2 and 3, turning it up to the max in part 4 and part 5 even reaching a value above the “Mega Max” as part 5 maximum speed!
In films 6 and 7 the mission is in the foreground, while in part 8 the ice breaks and in part 9 the jet breaks. Or is it a jet burst? The upcoming 10th film is currently still listed as “Wild Speed 10”, but we hope Japan’s most creative minds will get together and pull a more entertaining title out of the hat by the time it launches in May 2023!
