Things are simmering in the Counter-Strike community – once again. After the shooter Counter-Strike 2 struggled with massive problems such as crashes, poor optimization and security gaps when it was released in summer 2023.
Free wallhacks for everyone
What happened? A newly discovered exploit in Counter-Strike 2 has allowed players to activate wallhacks and other cheats with a simple console command.
These console commands are actually intended for experimenting with training modes, but a recently discovered vulnerability made it possible to abuse these cheats in ranked games to gain an unfair advantage.

The result was a absolutes Chaos in ranked premier games as well as the highly competitive FaceIt lobbies, which require their own anti-cheat client in addition to the Valve Anti Cheat. But since the exploit was not a classic hack that is injected into the game, it was of course not detected.

The severity of the exploit led to a quick response from Valvewho released a patch to render the unfair console command unusable within 24 hours of discovering the exploit.
It is not yet clear whether the players who used these commands will now have to face consequences, but it is likely that they will. It is reported that the cheats in the regular Premier rankings were not automatically detected by the system, but Valve will have to manually investigate the potential reports here.
The reason: The so-called Overwatch system, with which users could check other players’ replays for suspicious behavior, was removed from CS:GO and thus also CS2 around a year ago. This system still exists on FaceIt, so the fraudsters should be caught promptly – the admins are already working on the problem and have promised prompt bans.
