The producer of FF7 Rebirth has made a strange statement about a possible FF8 remake that is expected to change a very specific aspect of its gameplay.
The FF7 remake opened Pandora’s Box. Now every gamer wants a complete overhaul of their favorite Final Fantasy. So there are a lot of rumors. We think in particular of the ninth work, but for some it is the 8th work that will pass there with its FF8 rem ake. Nothing is confirmed at the moment, but given the success of Cloud and his gang’s return, it’s a possibility. Furthermore, the producer of Rebirth just gave a speech that was… strange to say the least, but one that excited some fans.
FF8 remake? Okay, but the combat system needs to change
In reality, we are deliberately exaggerating the statement a little. Yoshinori Kitase would never have dropped such a hint during an interview for IGN. However, it does give some people the opportunity to find hope. The FF8 remake is in high demand, but Square Enix doesn’t seem ready to put it together. Or maybe he does, but he keeps it a secret. Let’s imagine for a moment that this is the case and that the producer of Rebirth is one of the minds behind the project. Expect a big ch ange.
First of all, there is a logical reason why Kitase mentioned an FF8 remake. In fact, this month of February 2024 marks the 25th anniversary of the game. If a rework comes onto the market, he would definitely like to modify the combat system. More specifically, it’s the “Association” mechanic that he’d like to rework.
I think you remember that in Final Fantasy 8 we had the matchmaking system. The principle of this system was that opponents leveled up depending on the player’s level. Therefore, it was necessary to use the junction system and adapt it to the challenge. I think it was a very difficult system for some to understand.
So I think I’d like to go back to this point and rework the combat system [Final Fantasy 8] to better balance difficulty and accessibility for specific fans
A remake is not an easy task
But then could a remake of FF8 be in the works? Don’t rely on it too much. The producer himself stated that it was a significant undertaking. “I realized that trying to recreate the amount of content found in RPGs today is definitely not something to be taken lightly ” he told IGN. We remember him proclaiming that a full remake of Final Fantasy 6 would take at least about twenty years. You know, for now it’s better to be patient. Especially since the FF7 remake in is divided into three parts and we have only just reached the second one.
