Electronic Arts has announced “in the near future” that it will be testing FIFA 22’s cross-play feature in online seasons and online friendly matches.

Testing will be on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Stadia. There is no mention of PC in the announcement.

EA says Online Seasons and Online Friendly Matches are the only modes being tested, as having only those two modes will reduce the chance of introducing new issues into the game. The company says the data and feedback collected will help understand how cross-play can be further implemented in future games.

Once crossplay is available, enabling it will be very easy thanks to a widget in the bottom right corner of the menu. In the widget, you simply follow the button prompts to enable or disable your cross playtest participation. You can also control your cross-play test participation by visiting the Matchmaking Options settings screen.

Play with others during the beta, and you can add your friends to your in-game friends list via the widget. You can search for your friends by their platform or EA username, as indicated by the on-screen button prompt. To play with them, just click on their name and invite them to a match.

With cross-play enabled, you can also jump into online seasons as usual because there is nothing else to do.

Cross play testing will not have any direct impact on FIFA 22 gameplay.

News of a return to cross-play for FIFA 22 surfaced in March.
