The fact that the FIFA series is to be renamed has been whistling from the rooftops for some time. An industry insider now wants to know that the renaming has now been internally fixed.
It has long been rumored that Electronic Arts wants to break away from the title FIFA and rename the in-house football game. The main reason for this is that FIFA now wants significantly more money for the rights – there is talk of doubling the license costs to a whopping 2.5 billion US dollars over the next ten years. So it’s no wonder that EA is slowly getting fed up.
Industry insider Jeff Grubb now claims to have learned that the game’s new name has now been given the green light internally. Accordingly, the FIFA series will adorn itself in the future with the extremely imaginative title EA Sports Football Club.
Grubb has discovered trademarks for it several times, but initially assumed it was a feature or online mode, until several inquiries confirmed that it should be the new name of the series.
The previous agreement with FIFA expires after the World Cup in Qatar, in other words, a FIFA 23 will probably await us this year, but that should also be the last part with this name. We’ll know more when FIFA 23 is officially announced, which is traditionally likely to happen in June.
