We asked the developers a few questions in advance about the technology behind the PC port. We have listed the questions and their answers below:

GameStar: What are your most important insights from previous PC ports of Final Fantasy games?

Hiroshi Takai, Regisseur, Final Fantasy 16: We’ve been careful not to set the minimum and recommended specs too high, and we’ve made sure there are plenty of configuration options so each player can customize their experience.

These are the system requirements:

Minimum requirements:

Operating system: Windows 10 / 11 64-bit
Prozessor: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 / Intel Core i5-8400
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Grafik: AMD Radeon RX 5700 / Intel Arc A580 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 170 GB available storage
Additional notes: 30FPS at 720p expected. SSD required. VRAM 8GB or above.

Recommended:

Operating system: Windows 10 / 11 64-bit
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X / Intel Core i7-10700
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Grafik: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 170 GB available storage
Additional notes: 60FPS at 1080p expected. SSD required. VRAM 8GB or above.

GameStar: Will the PC version have new features, like Final Fantasy 15 did? For example, 120 FPS support? What about Ultra Wide?

Packaging: Unfortunately, the game won’t support Ultra Wide at launch, but it will support up to 240fps. It will also support upscaling technologies like NVIDIA DLSS3, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS. And of course, you can play with a mouse and keyboard.

GameStar: Will Mini-Socket be included in the PC version?

Takai: It will! Everything from the PS5 version is there.

What is Mini-Soken?
Named after Final Fantasy 16 composer Masayoshi Soken, this is a software that edits the music in FF16 in real time and adapts the speed and style to the respective game. Read more about it in the article by our colleagues on MeinMMO.

GameStar: What do you think about mod support?

Naoki Yoshida, Produzent, Final Fantasy 16: We have a lot of PC players on the FF16 team who are into modding, myself included. While it can be fun to play with mods, installing mods comes with its own risks. The most important thing is not to create or install anything that is offensive or inappropriate.

GameStar: In the past, performance issues were sometimes a problem with the latest ports and also with the PS5 version, how do you plan to improve the performance?

Packaging: We’ve spent a lot of time fine-tuning the optimization settings for different CPUs and GPUs, and we’ve added options to adjust a ton of different settings.

Final Fantasy 16 will be released on September 17th on Steam and in Epic Games StoreYou can choose between the basic edition (50 dollars) and the complete edition (70 dollars) with both DLCs. Those who pre-order will also receive the following three in-game items:
