Some of the main developers behind final fantasy 16 Apparently worked before blood sourceSimilar, asymmetrical multiplayer, which was eventually cancelled.

According to Final Fantasy 16’s own Naoki Yoshida, himself and several other key developers are working on a standalone fantasy game that they call “basically bloodborne.” This comes from Yoshida’s own bi-weekly Famitsu column “Yoshida Uncensored,” which has been translated by a fan, and the section discussing the canceled game is highlighted on ResetEra.

The Bloodborne-like game was apparently about a year in development than Yoshida, Hiroshi Takai, Kazutoyo Maehiro, and Hiroshi Minagawa, the first three being used to fix Final Fantasy 14. The game is apparently a “pretty hardcore action game,” according to Yoshida. “If we had moved on and Bloodborne was released first, we might have been freaked out by now,” Minagawa said, apparently laughing as he said it.

“It has the same weapons and guns. And it’s Gothic,” Takai said, and Yoshida quipped, “Where have I seen this before…?”

Bloodborne does have elements of online multiplayer, just like previous Souls games, but the canceled game this time around is clearly more of an asymmetrical multiplayer game, where four-player fights, single-player killers will have stronger powers and try to kill other people. “It’s basically Bloodborne plus that system…if we move on, I think we’re still working on it right now,” Yoshida explained.

Of course, with the mention of the canceled game, some fans have speculated that this could affect Final Fantasy 16’s design. 16’s director Takai also worked as a designer before Devil May Cry V, so action fighting will obviously be a major part of the game. While not Gothic, it’s going back to a more medieval-inspired setting and looking a bit darker as well, so some ideas might be translated into the next mainline Final Fantasy.
