news tip Final Fantasy 7: Play original in 60 FPS? It’s finally possible!
Calling all Final Fantasy VII fans, thanks to an incredible mod, you can now play a much more stable and smooth version of the original game on PC. We explain where it comes from, what it does and how to install it!
A game that shaped an entire generation and more
Final Fantasy VII, one of the most significant games in video gaming history, will soon be celebrating its 25th anniversary. Square Enix’s little gem was released on January 31, 1997 and managed to reach an incredible number of players – and it still does today, thanks in part to the long-awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake, which was released in 2020. But the original game shaped the minds of gamers so much that they continue to do it and do it again today, even if most have exchanged the PlayStation version and its 4 CDs for a dematerialized version on PC, especially on Steam.
Unfortunately, even if the experience remains very pleasant, this PC format is very poorly optimized compared to that of the console, especially in terms of the FPS that are painful to see. But just days before the game’s 25th anniversary, a group of determined modders finally managed to ditch the 15 FPS in favor of much smoother playback.
A mod that brings Final Fantasy VII up to date

The group of modders FFNx has achieved the impossible while passing Final Fantasy VII from 15 FPS to 60 FPS, which was no easy task given the state of the game.
