In a recent interview with the developers of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, the game’s director expressed some bold feelings about the third and final installment.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake and its follow-up, Rebirth, have been among the most anticipated games for fans of the original for years, and after all this time, we’re getting closer and closer to the final part of the final game. Square Enix recently shared a two-hour behind-the-scenes video for Rebirth, featuring producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Kenji Hamaguchi, with both developers praising the previous game, saying it reached a standard that could have been unattainable. “When I think about the third and final game in the Remake trilogy, I get really excited, and I have big expectations for it,” said Kitase.
“I really hope that fans have great expectations for this game, and we will live up to those expectations. We will definitely continue to expand the world of Final Fantasy VII and make it even bigger than it is now.” The producer went on to say that feedback from the first two games will be “reflected in the third game,” and said it will be “exactly in line with fans’ expectations.” That’s a pretty bold statement, but even if the game may be out sooner than you think, it may still be a few years away.
Hamaguchi has also been working hard to promote the game, perhaps even more so than Kitase, saying, “The development team is working hard to make this game a game that will exceed everyone’s expectations. I have every confidence that the third game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series will once again become one of the most beloved and popular games in the entire history of video games.”
Look, I love Remake and Resurgence, but you might want to temper your expectations a bit. Final Fantasy VII was obviously a hugely influential game, but times have changed. I hope he’s right, because I think Remake and Resurgence are more interesting than some skeptics give them credit for, but let’s settle for a moment. Plus, I need the currently MIA Kingdom Hearts 4 to come out first, anyway.
