Final Fantasy 7 Remake Some major twists and turns are needed later in the game, and we really need to talk about it.

In this discussion, Alex Donaldson and Kirk McKeand will discuss the ending and its impact on future games. It will be assumed that you have a certain understanding of the events of the original game.

Next is the full game and detailed ending spoilers. ‘Because, we need to talk. Unless you want a spoiler or have completed the game, don't wear a sailor suit over Barret. If you read this book, we kindly ask you to respect other fans and use this knowledge wisely. We know that many of you have an early copy of a week, but still – Don't ruin things for others. First: a quick review. Throughout the game, the main characters are set by a group of entities called Whispers. The content did not appear in the original book, but proved to be the incarnation of destiny-to ensure that the story can be played like the original book. All are metadata.

On one occasion, they even reorganized the party member Barret after Sephiroth's sword was punctured, because things were not so “easy”. Everything has become a bit meta.

With the end of the story, the characters decided to fight against fate. Literally, it was to fight against fate in a situation that contradicted the physical manifestation of their own fate. They also fight Sephiroth in a similar way to the actual ending of the full original game, although this remake is only the first part. By the end of the game, the key players are at the same position as the end of the Midgar part of the original FF7, but the context is completely different, and the characters may even play in a completely different way in a new world.

Let's start a conversation with Alex:

ad: Therefore, the first thing I want to say is that "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" has some similarities with "Final Fantasy 13" in some respects compared with the original "Final Fantasy 7". The original FF7 is about life, death and reincarnation, but since the remake covers the content of the original story, there is no real development opportunity for these themes.

These themes are reflected in the original game's Midgar, but there is only one way to create a scene in Cosmo Canyon, which really opens the whole topic. It ’s the same here, but of course you wo n’t enter Cosmo Canyon … so it makes sense that the game provides another core theme. I just didn't expect that the theme was destiny, destiny and destiny, which is basically the core theme of FF13.

I think it's fair to say that relevant people are interested in this. Story co-director Toriyama Motobu directed FF13, and writer Kazushige Nojima wrote the overall situation of FF13, so these guys visited the same topic again. Kingdom Hearts of Tetsuya Nomura also has many such things.

Therefore, we must first ask – Kirk, what do you think of this? The idea presented in the game is that there is a "fixed version" of history-it is described as "the will of the planet itself" and "the flow of planets from birth to oblivion"-and the version of the event is the original version of the game. Whenever an event changes significantly from the original event, these ghosts appear and intervene to ensure that people go to the right place, do the right thing, and even die at the right time.

But at the end of the game, the crew did what lightning and friends did, and decided to try to fight against fate to change the future. Do you think it is too yuan?

KM: This is too yuan. Until the end, all the small changes added some content to the original story the fans experienced. These ghostly phantoms called "whispers" are the main new mysteries, but I think they are related to Jenova cloning experiments (such as Cloud and Sephiroth itself). The souls wore dark cloaks, unlike the pilgrims who were originally reunited with the pilgrimage at Nibheim. However, it turns out that "whispering" is just a device for the writer to completely remove the game from its original vision.

The biggest unanswered question during the remake is how Square Enix plans to complete the rest of the story – how will the game split? We already know that this will be Midgar, but the map of the original game is vast and diverse, with different biomes and cities with different buildings everywhere. From a development perspective, with this fidelity (because honestly, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is excellent), packaging all of this content seems to be an asset nightmare. Whispering does n’t feel that they are supporting existing stories – they are evasion clauses, so the upcoming games can be turned wildly from their original vision.

At the end of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Cloud and the company fought for fate, as you said, somehow changed the future that hasn't happened yet. We saw a glimpse of the death of Aerith. We saw that Red XIII was run by Nanaki with cubs afterwards. This shows that all of this will change. Hell and even Biggs were spared to some extent from the fall of the Sector 7 board, although it was clearly bleeding in half of the pillar. I understand that the author hopes to leave some surprises in it, but these changes have far-reaching effects and are completely confusing in some cases. Like, the game ends with your battle with Sephiroth, but he is not enriched. I think the new player will doubt his role. Aerith suddenly knew nothing about him, and Cloud and Tifa, who had dealt with him in the past, hardly said anything to him. How do you feel about the entire Sephiroth sequence?

ad: It ’s interesting that you mentioned that whispering is part of a reunion, because in the early development of the original game there were no Sephiroth clones, but the “man” of the black cloak is a fragment of Jenova floating wonderfully under the cloak-that ’s why they tried Reunite and become a whole again. They cut it, but I also think they want to bring it back-obviously not.

To be honest, this is where the ending confuses me a little. Before they decided to fight "whispering", Ellis said: "We will change more than fate itself. If we win, we will change ourselves" – then you continue to do so, but in a sense The ending of the game is the same. The crew is still leaving Midgar to chase Sephiroth.

Other works are also moving around-Biggs must be alive, Wedge might be? Witch ’s fate is that whispering seems to drive him out of the window of death penalty-which is interesting in itself, because it means that he died in the same way but died in different places-but it did fade to black, so we do n’t uncertain.

But the important thing is … someone suggested that Zack is still alive-but after conceiving Zack, I think the ending will be very different. In a sense, the two are contradictory: it establishes the team ’s ever-changing history, but it does n’t make much sense to them personally. Although showing us the original ending of Red XIII, the death of Aerith, the flash of Meteor, and hinting that these things may not happen or may be different now, but the ending has put the core players on the previous path.

KM: can you? I'm not sure. For those who don't know, Zack is a first-class soldier. Yun is an ordinary Shinra force, he admires Zack and wants to be him. He saw Zack died in front of him, picked up his sword of nemesis, and basically stole his identity. The trauma convinced him of the lies that he created for himself.

In the scene we saw with Zack, he was spared what he should die. Even Zack was shocked. He would say, "Well, is this everyone?" When he realized that all the soldiers were dead. This raises a big question: Does this happen in the universe that we have played throughout the game, or does Zack live only in the new universe where fate is cut? If the latter, does this mean that another version of Cloud exists in the same world? Is there another Barret, Tifa and Aerith? Are we completely in the alternative dimension now?

If Zack survived, Cloud would never pick up his sword. Aerith will probably date Zack. The butterfly effect means that this change may have a major impact on the state of the world, so I think things will be very different in the next few games, so even though the crew members ended the game at the same location. What are your thoughts?

ad: I guess this will not be resolved until the next game, but I want to point out that when the team experiences "singularity" (which is what the game calls), they will appear as Midgar with the same appearance. So some people want to know if they have entered another universe.

What I want to point out is that when we saw Zack survived his onslaught, we briefly saw the "Stamp" dog seen on the graffiti around Midgar to help the avalanche, but Zack ( Zack) The stamp in the scene is another kind or we will see the stamp throughout the game, does this imply that this is a different world? It really feels a bit like JJ Abrams ’Star Trek movie, where they created a branch on the timeline so that they can restate old stories in other ways while keeping the old Canon intact.

In this branch alone, Zac is still alive … if not absolute, then at least his life is longer than before. To quote another series that focuses on jet lag and continuity, "Who Doctor": "There is a man in the world who was not alive before. The whole world is different because he is still alive." It changed all. Biggs

The simple answer may be that this is just a retcon, and now Zack takes Cloud to Midgar and perishes in other ways. After all, Yun still has his sword.

I do think that small changes will produce a butterfly effect. Biggs survived Avalanche's sacrifice, didn't he? Even if Wedge is not spared, it is still not clear, I think they transferred his sacrifice to a less interesting place. The introspective moments that occurred in Cosmo Canyon Barret lamented that the beautiful scene of his lost friend has now greatly diminished. I think this usually also causes teeth to fall off the plate – there should n’t even be any corpses to recover, but the ending even hints that Jesse has recovered (when we saw him, her headband and gloves were in Biggs The bedside is recovering).

Finally, whenever there is a change, the sky will sparkle. We saw them while surviving Zack-in fact, they exploded and knocked down Zack. When they start to rebuild, we will see that they are above the people in District 7, which has never happened in the original building. We saw them on the surviving Biggs.

I thought "whispering" might be a frequent occurrence in the entire remake series, but now I think they are probably the main villains in the first part. Now that they have been defeated, they can change freely in the future … as you said, this is a common excuse for them to make subsequent games change as they wish, so that they can solve various development problems. Like that, is there a problem? I really like them to do something different. The original game is still with us. But then again, I was one of those people who never particularly wanted to make a remake. I would rather play FF16 this week, just like I like to make a remake.

KM: Even if I ca n’t believe you quoted the news that Who Doctor got there, I will get you. I am very happy to see how they handle it, but at the same time, I feel a little frustrated. Every scene I look forward to can be found in "Final Fantasy 7 Remastered Edition", and it is doing very well, and I look forward to seeing more in the next few games. Will West Germany and his rocket be in them? Will Red XIII be with his father? Gold plate? The prison below it? Even beyond everything that might not happen, I think the changes made at the end of the remake are meaningless to any novice.

I also want to talk about your point that Cloud still has the sword of elimination-I do n’t think it means Zack is dead. He is dead, but only exists in the universe where our cloud comes from. I think he is alive in this universe, so is another cloud-evil cloud, anyone? Man, that's really me feet.

Anyway, as I said when I talked about the newbie-as fans of the original, we already know who Sephiroth is and why we should fight him, but this has never been explained to the player. The game did not win his last battle. In the original situation, he has been this unknowable threat for a long time, and then you gradually discover who he is. "Final Fantasy 7 Remastered Edition" surpassed its status as a classic movie, and hope that the audience will care about this iconic villain coming back. But he is not an iconic character for new players-he is just a guy in a cloak, holding a big sword in his hand, and he will raise his head to do things you do n’t understand. I also hate what they did to the blood stains of the Shinra building, but turned it into a blue grunt from Sephiroth's alien mother Jenova. It completely eliminates the occurrence of terror.

I do not know. In the end it feels hasty, many of the characters there are underdeveloped. The cast is so good that it stands out even more. They have appropriate personality and grow with people. But then, we are in a mess, we know nothing. Even Rufus, the son of President Shinra, is a bit disappointing, right?

ad: I think this is the core issue. FF7 Remake is an excellent game – as you said in the comments, the best 3D battles in the Final Fantasy game, excellent character development, and its recognized beauty of the limited world … shortcomings cannot be solved many problems. However, although we, as fans, are arguing about the meaning of the ending, I ca n’t help but think that those who have n’t played the original will be very confused.

As you said, in this game, nothing really solves the problem. I think we know this will happen. But Shinra is still active. The president has died, but Rufus is clearly a bad guy, and now he is responsible. Sephiroth – You fought him, he escaped. The only thing that has changed is that the party defeated the ghosts who tried to force them to take the same actions and roads as the original game … and all of this was a bit subtle.

For example, when "whispering" shows you the most iconic moments in the original game, such as Aerith prayers, meteors passing Midgar, Red XIII and its ending cubs, and even Cloud can give Aerith a rest … Red XIII refers to it as "a glimpse of the future fails here today." For us, this is exciting … These iconic events may not happen now because they won, or this time there may be something different. Of course, this is exciting and a little scary. But what does this even mean for those who only have some casual understanding of the game?

The last Zack revelation is the same, right? Shock and mystery require you to have played Crisis Core or saw an optional, easy-to-miss scene in the original FF7.

As for Rufus, buddy, I am very frustrated. I like his battles-one of the best battles in the game, a real immediate duel that requires strategy-but I am really disappointed, he is not as arrogant as in the original game. He has only a few lines. You don't feel much about him as a person. So, yes, underdeveloped … I think for many non-Party actors, this is indeed true, because of course their development must be preserved in the next game.

However, what is the main actor. So well written and delivered. that is really good. I think this is my harvest. These new changes may or may not work, and may become better or worse, but it is really hard to see the effect of such implementation. I personally want to change. I know you don't like it. Most importantly, it makes me want to replay the original movie.

KM: Yes, it is still a great game. And, hey, it made us debate and talk about the meaning of all this. I have to wait for about three years to see what happens next, which is really unbearable. I am excited about the future of my favorite series, maybe it is enough.
