Rumors about the remake of Final Fantasy IX have been around for some time, but Square Enix has so far refused to make any concrete announcements. However, Giant Bomb editor and industry insider Jeff Grubb wants fresh information on the new edition and is only too happy to share it with us.
Square Enix hasn’t even released the second part of the Final Fantasy VII remake yet. However, that does not seem to prevent the company from already working on the next new edition. At least that’s what various insider information suggests, the goal of the rejuvenation seems to be Final Fantasy IX.

After an NVIDIA leak made the rounds a few weeks ago, which unofficially presented the remake of Final Fantasy IX, Giant Bomb editor and industry insider Jeff Grubb had his say. According to him, the new edition is quite real, even if it is not quite as extensive and ambitious as the remake of Final Fantasy VII.
Now Grubb talks again about the production effort. Accordingly, this is somewhere between Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. This will be reflected in the combat system in particular, which should appeal to fans of classic JRPGs much more. According to Grubb, the Active Time Battle mechanics of the original released in 2000 will be retained.
Grubb also wants information about the presentation. The remake of Final Fantasy IX is supposed to boast sounded dialogues, refreshed cutscenes, a new world map and new character models and backgrounds. There will also be fresh story content. Square Enix continues to keep a low profile when it comes to the reboot. According to the insider “Im A Hero Too”, Final Fantasy IX should appear as a PlayStation exclusive.
