For weeks, Kazushige Nojima has been complaining on X (formerly Twitter) about harassment and death wishes from fans. The community’s response to this is an overwhelming amount of positive feedback under the hashtag #ThankYouFFVIIDevs.
Developers and authors regularly have to listen to a lot from their players, but in the case of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth it goes a little too far for author Kazushige Nojima’s taste. Apparently he is regularly harassed with requests to remove or even kill off certain characters from the franchise. He doesn’t reveal exactly which character or game it’s about, but especially in view of the events that are about to take place in the second part of the remake trilogy, one can at least assume what the complainers are about. (We don’t want to give any spoilers at this point.)
Nojima’s answer to these requests is clear: “I write every character with love. You’re welcome to have any opinion or thought, but please don’t send me messages telling me to get rid of the character or possibly kill him. I don’t want to block you or mute you and I don’t want to ban you.”

The fans reacted to his complaints with a real “candystorm”. Using the hashtag #ThankYouFFVIIDevs, the community on X publishes their favorite screenshots, memories and fanart and thanks the developers for their work.
With Final Fantasy: Rebirth, the second part of the new edition of the 1997 classic will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024.
