Final Fantasy VII was the leader in physical format sales in the UK for the past week. A worthy launch for a remake of which tops the list of best-selling games in the saga. However, Square Enix managed to sell more copies during the Final Fantasy XV release week, the company was expected to sell more. Specifically, FF VII sold half of its predecessor FF XV, perhaps, due to the current situation related to the coronavirus and the distribution problems of the product. As a result, many players have been forced to go digital, even if this was not in their plans. Still, Square Enix has managed double the sales of another famous remake recently released: Resident Evil 3. And although for now it has only seen the light on PlayStation 4, Square Enix is already targeting its launch on PC.
Since confinement began, physical sales in UK have exceeded one million. The premiere of games like Resident Evil 3 Remake, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Animal Crossing: New Horizons have reflected a lot of sales coinciding with just a few days apart, from Games Industry comment that this tend to be end-of-year figures. The blockade has prompted people to opt for video games as a means of entertainment, this has been seen in increased sales of console packs with games like The Last of Us Remastered or Horizon Zero Dawn.
In the UK, the week ending April 11 is topped in sales by the Final Fantasy VII Remake premiere, followed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Among the 10 best sellers we can see great classics such as Mario Kart 8: Deluxe in fifth position, Grand Theft Auto 5 in ninth and The Last of Us: Remastered in tenth, possibly the latter due to the quarantine effect that has forced those affected to choose by other entertainment methods such as video games.
