Unfortunately, gender blocks are firmly anchored in the history of video games and Final Fantasy XIV also restricted the gender selection of some playable races, much to the displeasure of fans. In the new expansion Dawntrail, this will finally come to an end and the previously exclusively male Hrothgar people will have their feminine counterparts.
When the Viera people became playable in 2019, some eyebrows may have been raised in surprise. The human-like creatures with rabbit ears are more reminiscent of Playboy bunnies than serious adventurers and coincidentally were only playable in a female version. After male Viera became available shortly thereafter at player insistence (and supposedly for lore reasons), the feline Hrothgar remained the last race with limited gender choice.
But now the cat is out of the bag: With the upcoming Dawntrail expansion, this will also be a thing of the past. It’s not entirely clear in the story why the Hrothgar women haven’t wanted to show themselves so far, but according to the developers there is a very pragmatic reason for it, at least on their side. The Leo-Human female form simply wasn’t ready at the time of release.
But of course Dawntrail not only brings (half) a new people, but also new jobs. Both the Viper and the Pictomancer strengthen the ranks of jobs with a focus on attack and damage, respectively.
The Vipers are melee fighters with two swords, which can also be combined into a single weapon if necessary.
The Pictomancer’s enemies will experience their blue (or red or yellow) wonder as he, armed with a brush and palette, fires colored projectiles or draws allies in the air who then fight for you.

Square Enix doesn’t want to commit to a release date yet. The new peoples, jobs and areas should be available sometime this summer.
