It is no longer a secret that Final Fantasy XVI is being worked on. But when will we finally be able to hear more about the game? The makers are now promising an official presentation in a reasonable time.
Final Fantasy XVI was officially presented at the PlayStation Showcase in September 2020, but unfortunately the next big part of the long-running RPG series has been pretty quiet since then. One reason for this is the pandemic situation, as the makers are now confirming.
In a message at the end of the year, producer Naoki Yoshida spoke up and confirmed that Final Fantasy XVI has been set back around half a year in development due to Corona and the associated working conditions. The background to this is the poor communication in the home office and the fact that a number of outsourced assets have been subject to considerable delays or even have to be discontinued entirely.
That is also why the hopes of the fans that there would be a bigger presentation of the new title in 2021 were not fulfilled. After Sony’s State of Play passed in October, hopes rested on the Game Awards in December, but there Square Enix focused more on forspoken. From Final Fantasy XVI, however, nothing could be seen or heard.
But that should change within a tolerable time frame. Yoshida is planning a bigger reveal event for the game in spring 2022. At least that is the current schedule for the title. The reveal event is supposed to fuel the anticipation for the later release.
Finally, despite all understandable circumstances, Yoshida apologized for the delay in development and thanked the fans for their patience.
