JRPG fans with a PlayStation 5 were able to plunge into the game world of Final Fantasy XVI in June 2023. A PC version is due to be released, but Square Enix has so far been skilful in holding back on a release date. But now there are hints from an unexpected source.
Final Fantasy has been one of the greats in the JRPG sector for decades. If you want to criticize Square Enix for something, it is the fact that the studio clung too much to old elements. This also resulted in declining sales, so new ideas and fresh concepts were needed.

That’s why Square Enix took a risk with Final Fantasy XVI. The setting went back to the dark Middle Ages and the turn-based elements of the combat system were thrown out and replaced with fast-paced real-time battles in the style of Devil May Cry and similar titles. The game’s success proved it right, even though it only appeared on the PlayStation 5.
We’ve known for some time that a PC version is coming. In March, the game’s producer, Naoki Yoshida, said that we wouldn’t have to wait too long for a demo. As we know, nothing came of it, but now there are new clues.

Here you can find explicit mentions of executable files for Final Fantasy XVI and also of a demo. This could of course mean that Square Enix will soon finally delight us with a PC version of the role-playing game. Perhaps the demo will be released as a shadow drop at the Opening Night Live of Gamescom on August 20, 2024?
