Babylon’s Fall is now officially dead. But did the Nier makers’ RPG ever live? A final update finally buried the flop. The patch notes of it are a true tragedy.
Mercilessly flopped
What is Babylon’s Fall again? Babylon’s Fall is or was the latest role-playing game from the Platinum Games studio, which was previously responsible for games like Bayonetta, Nier: Automata and Vanquish. The RPG originally appeared on March 3, 2022 – but nobody was interested in it at the time of release.
And that despite the fact that the basic idea of Babylon’s Fall didn’t even sound that bad: An action role-playing game from the Nier: Automata makers with hack and slash battles, extensive character development and a fantasy/medieval setting? The reality, however, painted a very different picture.
By the way, you can get a concrete impression of Babylon’s Fall in the following release trailer:

But just 700 players tried their hand at Babylon’s Fall at launch, first user ratings or even press tests came about very slowly. At the time, however, most players agreed: the role-playing game, which cost 70 to 110 dollars, came with pretty cheeky microtransactions. Many criticize that Babylon’s Fall feels like a Free2Play game despite being fully priced. You can find out more about the catastrophic release here.
In the months that followed, the situation hardly improved. In the meantime only one player was active in Babylon’s Fall. Nevertheless, Platinum stuck to the role-playing game and even promised additional updates. However, the developers later announced that the service for Babylon’s Fall would be discontinued.
The last update (so far) followed on February 28, 2023 … but that was actually only supposed to pull the plug on Babylon’s Fall.
The saddest patch notes ever
February 28th released version 1.4.0 for Babylon’s Fall, which unceremoniously put the RPG to sleep. The official patch notes turn out as follows:
Babylon’s Fall is no longer playable, will no longer show up or be purchased in Steam searches. At least that one Steam page you can still visit. By the way, Babylon’s Fall reached its last peak shortly before that, on the Monday before, 31 fans(?) were still playing at the same time.
What do you think of the tragedy of Babylon’s Fall: Have you tried the role-playing game from Platinum Games yourself or avoided it? How do you like the developer’s other games such as Bayonetta or Nier? Let us know in the comments!
