Anyone who starts the Netflix app on the Fire TV Stick will increasingly see a QR code. We’ll tell you wh at it’s all about.
Anyone who opens the Netflix app on their Amazon Fire TV Stick will currently see not only advertisements for new films and series when selecting a profile, but also a QR code. This takes you directly to the streaming service’s mobile app. But why does Netflix advertise this on the TV screen?
With the giant QR code, the streaming service wants to draw attention to a new feature in the app: companion mode. You can pair your phone with your TV using a new button in the top right corner of the Netflix app. To do this, both must be on the same WiFi network and you must be logged in to both with the same account.
Netflix mobile app now offers TV companion mode
Once paired, you can then control the Netflix app on your TV via your phone. This can be practical because if you are looking for a title, you don’t have to laboriously type it letter by letter using the remote control on the on-screen keyboard, but can type it directly into your phone. In addition, the companion mode offers “shortcuts” to popular categories such as “New on Netflix”.
Companion mode is now available in the Netflix app. If you want to use it, you should update the app before scanning the QR code from the TV. Other streaming services have been offering a similar feature for some time. Amazon also offers a mobile app for the Fire TV Stick that allows you to use the on-screen keyboard in all of the stick’s apps.
