You thought the studio closures of the year were over? But you’re wrong there. With First Contact Entertainment, the next game company is now throwing in the towel. The studio made a name for itself with the Firewall series of VR shooters.
The core principle of Firewall Ultra is actually quite promising. As a contractor, you hire yourself out as a soldier and have to complete espionage missions together with other players. With the PlayStation VR 2, the development studio First Contact wants to make entertainment as immersive as possible. But the title published on August 24, 2023 does not seem to have had the hoped-for success.

The management of the games company has now announced via Facebook that it is closing its doors. The reason given explicitly is that the industry simply doesn’t pay enough attention to virtual reality.
The statement reads: “After nearly 8 years of working with the best team ever, I am sad to announce that we are closing our company, First Contact Entertainment, at the end of the year. The lack of VR support within the industry is taking its toll required.”
It continues: “As a AAA VR gamer developer, we are simply unable to justify the expense to continue. We are a team of fearless innovators who want to push new technologies to their limits. I am very proud of “We’re very grateful to the team and to our investors, partners and of course our community of dedicated and passionate players. It’s been a wild ride, thank you very much!”
