The new Half-Life: Alyx will be released in March. After 13 years of absence, we are finally returning to City 17 and the world of Gordon Freeman. However, the VR adventure is not a sequel, but a prequel that takes place between Half-Life 1 and 2.
We have only seen how this works in virtual reality in a few short trailers. Now for the first time, the colleagues from IGN provide a longer look at the gameplay of Half-Life: Alyx. They show in their video series IGN First ten minutes of game scenes
Old acquaintance
She encounters the well-known aliens, such as those hanging from the ceiling Barnacleswhose grip she can defend herself with courageous firearms. People infected by hungry headcrabs also pose a threat.
Luckily, Alyx later finds a new pistol reminiscent of a Colt M1911. The part comes with one futuristic, free-floating holo visor, which should simplify the aiming in VR significantly.
Movement via »teleport« or free
What is striking in the gameplay video for Half-Life: Alyx in terms of movement is that we have a choice of how we want to get around, either with the help of placed markers through the game world we practically jump from place to place,
Alternatively, we can run normally by using the movement buttons to determine the direction and pace. For susceptible players, this mode is more likely to suffer from dizziness, the so-called motion sickness. Therefore, the option should come in handy for some players.
