The RTX 4060 will be faster than the RTX 3060 – but by how much?

So far it has been quiet about the RTX 4060. Nvidia’s next mid-range card is eagerly awaited by many players, but no concrete information has come to light so far.

That has now changed. The Lenovo manager Wolfstame has on the Chinese platform Weibo his thoughts on the performance, price and release date of the RTX 4060.

Admittedly, this is only an assumption, according to the company. However, it can be assumed that as the Product Planning Manager of one of the largest notebook manufacturers, he is not just guessing on the fly.

RTX 4060 at the level of the RTX 3070

In terms of performance, Wolfstame expects a more moderate jump in performance than we’ve seen on the flagship RTX 4080 and 4090 models. In our tests, they were able to achieve around 40 and 65 percent better raster performance than their predecessors:

For the RTX 4060, on the other hand, the Lenovo manager only expects a performance increase of 20 percent. However, throws Videocardz that he could also refer to the RTX 3060 Ti, which he later uses to compare prices.

In terms of power consumption, the RTX 4060 should be roughly in the same range as its predecessors. According to Wolfstame, it should be between 150 and 180 watts. For comparison: The official TDP of the RTX 3060 is 170 watts.

graphic card RTX 4060 RTX 3060 RTX 3060 Ti
power consumption 150 bis 180 Watt 170 Watt 200 Watt
Release 18.06.2023 25.02.2021 02.12.2020
US-Releasepreis 439 US-Dollar 329 US-Dollar 399 US-Dollar
Specifications of the RTX 4060 not officially confirmed

Price increase also for the RTX 4060

According to Wolfstame, the mid-range model shouldn’t be spared from a price increase either. In his post, he calculates a price that should be around 10 percent higher than the RTX 3060 Ti at the time of release. This was released in December 2020 for 399 US dollars.

So, assuming a US release price of around 440 US dollars, the RTX 4060 would be around 110 US dollars more expensive than its predecessor, the RTX 3060. Due to the currently poor euro exchange rate, the price increase in this country should be even more drastic.

The manager expects a release in June 2023. The cryptic number 618 at the end of his post should stand for June 18, 2023.

Lenovo-Manager: There’s no reason to wait for the 4060

Due to the comparatively moderate increase in performance with simultaneously increasing prices, the verdict from Wolfstame is expectedly negative. If he were correct in his assessments, there would be no reason to wait for the 4060.

Custom models of the RTX 3060 Ti are currently available at about the same price that the Lenovo manager expects for the RTX 4060. The RTX 3070, which is said to be roughly on the same level as the RTX 4060, can only be found in the USA at a price that is usually much more expensive, above 600 US dollars, with a higher power consumption of 220 watts TDP.

More info.

If you look at the current situation in Europey, Wolfstame’s assessment should be transferrable. The RTX 3060 Ti can be found in Europey from around 440 dollars, for the RTX 3070 you have to pay a surcharge of at least 100 to 150 dollars.

If the euro price is not drastically higher than the US counterpart, the RTX 4060 expected by Wolfstame could be a better offer – but not the big hit that many are currently hoping for.

Of course, Wolfstame’s assessments can also be wrong. Rumors that surfaced in August predicted a performance increase of around 50 percent. You can read more about this in the article by GameStar editor Nils Raettig:

The graphics card for everyone who has waited to upgrade because of the GPU crisis is shown for the first time in the benchmark
