Since the release of The First Descendant, players have been calling for, inspirationwhich borrows from other popular loot shooters. The two most commonly cited examples are Warframe and Destiny 2.

While TFD’s borrowings from Warframe are limited to mechanics and some aspects of crafting and character building, the comparisons to Destiny 2 extend to the design of the in-game icons. After players pointed out that several icons were very similar to those in Destiny 2, developer Nexon responded.

In a statement provided to Forbes contributor Paul Tassi, Nexon acknowledged that Destiny 2, as the premier loot shooter, was undoubtedly a huge inspiration for the team.

“The First Descendant is a looter shooter that we developed with great affection and respect for the genre,” the statement read. “Destiny 2 is a globally renowned looter shooter that the team personally admires and respects, and it served as an inspiration during development.”

However, while this is obvious, the similarities between the icons in both games may go beyond this definition, and this is something Nexon will be working to address.

“We take the concerns raised seriously and have decided to make adjustments to ensure that images that may appear similar clearly reflect the uniqueness of our game,” it continued. “We will continue to improve the game for fans of the looter shooter genre.”

It’ll be interesting to see how far the developers go to make the icons in The First Descendant more unique. So far, the team has been pretty receptive to player feedback, adding the much-anticipated feature in the game’s first patch, increasing the drop rates of certain items – and even preserving some of the game’s most powerful builds.
