From the perspective of some fans, the developers of Hunt: Showdown 1896 have dug deep into the toilet with the new Halloween DLC. The reason for this is a collaboration with the well-known horror icon from Scream – Ghost Face. The scary mask now also has its own appearance in the tactical shooter as a skin, but some players don’t feel like it at all. Such crossovers are already common in games like Fortnite, and Call of Duty also regularly allows unusual guest appearances. What already caused one or two criticisms with the latter game is now even clearer with Hunt. Fans fear that the atmosphere will suffer greatly. The user saryeen writes on Reddit that Hunt’s identity is dead. Others make fun of what could come next with self-made posters: a Goomba from Super Mario or perhaps Spongebob Squarepants himself? Of course, the outcry is not an indicator of whether the DLC will still sell well. The unusual collaborations in the CoD games, for example, are frowned upon by some players, but are still apparently lucrative for Activision. So whether Hunt: Showdown will stick with the Scream appearance or whether other figures from pop culture will sneak into the zombie-infested bayou of 1896 is uncertain.
