DayZ inventor Dean Hall and his studio Rocketwerkz released the new survival game Icarus on December 3, 2021 on Steam. And shortly after the release, thousands of player opinions come together. However, only half of them are positive. Many early players are disappointed, irritated and sometimes even angry.

What is the criticism?
on Steam At the time of this writing, Icarus stands at around 2,000 player ratings, of which only 55 percent positive fail. So the survival game moves in the area balanced
. A happy player base looks different on Steam.
Icarus mainly reaps negative Steam reviews for technical problems. Players report that it is difficult to get Icarus to work at acceptable frame rates. In addition to frame rates below 60 FPS, gamers also report frame drops and micro stuttering.
Some gamers argue that while the graphics look nice with Unreal Engine 4, the visuals aren’t enormous hardware hunger justify. In addition, gamers with high-end hardware also report these performance problems. Therefore, they locate a lack of optimization as the cause.

So everything is bad?
Icarus also shows a lot of potential, as can be read in numerous Steam reviews. Lots of players keep the basic idea of one challenging, session-based survival game quite interesting. The gameplay around crafting also finds its fans.
But even in the positive reviews there are often complaints about technical aspects. There are also a number of players who play the Can’t understand criticism at all
For those interested, it should currently be a game of chance whether their own PC setup can handle Icarus or whether performance problems are to be expected.
Another interesting release will be the survival game Sons of the Forest, which is the most wanted survival game by GameStar readers and which is the sequel to the horror hit The Forest:
Masterfully awaited survival game
The Forest 2 finally has a release date
This is what the author thinks: In no way am I one of those people who have to buy early access games directly at release. So no more! After all, as a GameStar survival guy, I was allowed to test some technically catastrophic games right from the start. That burned itself in. I know what Early Access often means – bugs, glitches, ailing performance, missing features. But I think that’s okay, after all, development time is not a pony farm.
All the more sobering was my brief first impression of Icarus, which unfortunately awakened very similar memories. In about an hour and a half of the game, I was busy for thirty minutes to find the right graphics settings so that Icarus runs reasonably smoothly and with stable frame rates on my still quite decent PC. It wasn’t that good in the end, but at least halfway playable. Nevertheless, Icarus urgently lacks optimization, as other players complain.
Early Access, which is declared as Early Access, can have such problems. But a game that obviously needed some more time in development, but is now on sale as a technically imperfect full version for Christmas business, leaves me with a bitter aftertaste.
I hope the developers get the game under control in a timely manner. Because at least I, like many other players, recognize the potential behind Icarus.
