Apex Legends has been a standard in the battle royale genre for five years and is ushering in big changes for the future with the introduction of a colorful 20th season. A new name (Breakout), new features and a fresh face for the genre, that’s what Respawn’s game wants to offer us.
Valentine’s Day has already been seriously jeopardized for some by a Champions League clash between PSG and Spanish club Real Sociedad (yes, yes, football, we know). But also with the multitude of games that were supposed to be released in the same month of February. To make the sentimental balance of certain households even worse, it is now the turn of the battle royale, more precisely Apex Legends, with the launch of the 20th season launched with great fanfare 24 hours earlier, on February 13th.
Already 20 seasons… but the actual review was already 5 years ago! In an unforgiving video game universe and after a pretty memorable launch, Apex Legends is still here, still standing and staying true to its post. In addition, Respawn is aware of this anniversary milestone and the longevity of its title and has decided to release the heavy artillery for this new season, with changes both small and large, but all aimed at one goal: the way to change how Apex players are played. to – of course – reach a new audience.
Evolving Legends for the new season of Apex Legends
So what will fundamentally change in this new season of Apex Legends? The legends can evolve as the game progresses. Depending on the actions taken, they can access different levels (from 1 to 4), with rewards and abilities available at each rank. Basically, Breakout brings elements of the light RPG to Apex and gives the player the opportunity to optimize their gaming experience according to their wishes and the options offered to them. The developers present at the video presentation of this new season insisted that these changes were made They were as useful and attractive for newcomers as they were beneficial for regular customers. In the case of the latter, we will inevitably wait for their return in a few days to be able to make a judgment.
What is certain is that the Legends’ style of play will change. It will be more passive or aggressive and depends on your actions on the ground. From now on, the EVO or the experience gained during the games will be used to increase the class of your Legends. And it’s not just about accumulating frags: the new XP system also favors group actions, and especially those related to detection and information gathering (beacon scans, opening crates, etc.). Suffice it to say that it is doable to reach level 4 without having attacked an enemy team.
Give these men a shield
Legends’ progression goes hand in hand with that of Shields. Respawn puts an end to the plundering of the latter in order to obtain them through XP and therefore – always – through your actions in the game. The shield levels are represented by colors: gray, the basic level, blue, unlockable at level 2, purple (level 3), and red for the final one. Note that only two shields (blue and purple) allow the use of two passive skills. These improve or change, for example, one of the essential properties of a legend or, for example, change the way a certain weapon is used on the field.
Here too, Respawn’s desire is clear: to put all players on the same level at the beginning of this Season 20, regardless of their gaming experience. In addition, the Shield Wrap – the exchange of shields – which allowed members of a squad to equip themselves with the shields of members of a defeated squad, has been revised. It is called a shield core and is defined as follows: Shield points are restored from the corpse of the fallen enemy. If his shield was at least of similar quality to ours, these points will regenerate our shield. If the shield recovery was higher, the points allow overload and therefore a temporary increase in our shield. Note that if you die in a game, you will respawn while your shield remains at the same level.
Brand new ranked games
The other big change in this 20th season of Apex Legends is the ranked match system. During the presentation, the developers emphasized in their speech the desire for balance among players. This means that the number of points associated with ranked play, the RP, will increase to 1 for all players when Breakout starts.
To increase this capital, you just need to win a game, defeat opponents in large numbers or with a higher rank than you. Taking risks is strongly encouraged, and when everyone is free to choose the playstyle that suits them best, the reward for aggressiveness and offense is greatly rewarded.
Apex Legends is preparing for a celebratory birthday!
In addition, it is important to note that our actions are analyzed and analyzed after each game. A summary shows us the actions that allowed us to win the famous RP and at the same time allows us to examine the mistakes made during the game. For the rest ? A new game mode appears in Unclassified, Straight Shot (or Direct Shot), which brings together thirty players in tight arenas with a random drop-off point. A new map, Thunderdome, is added to the Mixtape panel.
Six Legends (Seer, Fuse, Rampart, Mad Maggie, Loba and Valkyrie) can be unlocked for free throughout the season (depending on the objectives to be achieved), one Legend every two weeks. Finally, there appears to be an interactive museum that allows players to understand and follow the events and lore associated with the legends. You will have understood, the new season of Apex Legends is aimed at a wider audience and sounds like a new boost for the license. Reply on February 13th and in the following days to find out if these changes have borne fruit
