After the Assassin’s Creed Shadows battle pass leaked online, Ubisoft has clarified whether you’ll need to pay for it.
While many players may be into it, the battle pass isn’t something that’s universally loved as it’s essentially just homework to keep you playing when nothing else is going on. Honestly, they’re terrible, when a leak earlier this week seemed to indicate that the upcoming Animus Hub (the central area of Assassin’s Creed games starting with Shadow of War) would have a battle pass that unlocks things like cosmetics , obviously in the foreground. It’s unclear if there will be a paid battle pass, and there are obvious concerns about the existence of a paid battle pass for the single-player game.

Now, Ubisoft has shared a statement on the matter on Reddit’s Assassin’s Creed subreddit, clarifying whether you’ll need to spend extra money to collect said rewards. “Hi everyone. We’re aware of inaccurate rumors circulating online about the upcoming Animus Hub (formerly codenamed Infinity),” the post reads. “We would like to take this opportunity to clarify that all rewards available in the Animus Hub will be completely free. There are no paid subscriptions or paid battle passes in the Animus Hub. Players will have free access to regular content and missions. We will announce this in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows More details will be announced beforehand, thank you!”

Since Assassin’s Creed Shadows is so important to Ubisoft (a developer that may be acquired by Tencent due to poor performance), it’s not surprising that Ubisoft would want to clarify such things. The good news is that any adjacent battle pass in the Animus Hub will be free, so let’s hope it stays that way.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows was delayed in September and is currently scheduled to be released on February 14, 2025, on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
