Warning: major spoilers for Baldur’s Gate 3: The Dark Rush ahead.
Although Baldur’s Gate 3’s patch 7 is more powerful than Karaher’s Olympic weightlifting, with a ton of new additions, tweaks, and fixes, it seems that some things that players are looking forward to have been overlooked. The most disturbing thing is the reaction of companions to some dark impulse scenes. Some Baldur’s Gate 3 players are now urging Larian to modify this scene, otherwise the game will not be able to continue.
If you missed the latest Baldur’s Gate 3 update, which dropped last week, you can check out what it includes here. Needless to say, it’s been well received overall, especially the official modding tools, which modders have been doing a lot of interesting things with.

After Patch 7 was released, some players who like to go the Wrath of Redemption path started checking to see if — in addition to adding all those new evil endings — Larian had changed the way companions react to the revelation of characters’ past relationships with Baal, and if they could be resurrected by Withers if they resisted the god. It looks like the studio hasn’t, at least not in the way these players were hoping.
As a result, new threads on the matter (which has been a point of discussion within the community for some time) have appeared on Reddit and Larian’s official forums. “I opened this thread to gather the necessary support and have Larian listen to our opinions on what needs to be improved in the Dark Urge story before finally dropping the BG3 update,” a user named Sarene wrote in the forum post.
“It’s clear that companions are still lacking a lot of reactions in extremely story-relevant scenes,” they wrote. “Many of us were disappointed to see that the climax scene of Resistance to Durg remained exactly the same after Patch 7. I honestly can’t understand why this issue was ignored, because Durg is as much our own character as the game’s protagonist, Taff. It felt cold that our companions didn’t react at all in such a crucial moment, especially when our lovers didn’t express any emotion after we watched us die before their eyes.”
“A lot of situations are improved by adding dialogue and reactions, but I think the most important issues should at least be addressed in some way, otherwise Durge’s story feels fragmented and incomplete, and the lack of reactions is quite noticeable at times, breaking the immersion of the game,” Sarene concluded, “which is a shame because I think Dark Urge’s setting is great and makes the story richer by allowing our characters to be part of it.”
As of this writing, Larian doesn’t appear to have responded yet, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Since the studio has made it clear that there are still “a few patches” to go after Patch 7, and modders now have more tools to try and make the changes people want to make to the game, these Durge fans still have good reason to be hopeful.
