Unistellar no longer just builds smart telescopes, but now also offers matching binoculars with the ENVISION. It enables star and animal observation at the same time.
The manufacturer Unistellar is known for its smart telescopes, and now the company wants to expand its portfolio with a new product called ENVISION. ENVISION is a smart pair of binoculars made of optical glass.
It also advertises a so-called “Augmented Reality Precision Orientation System”. On the one hand, this should be an orientation aid with visual clues in the line of sight and, on the other hand, an exploration aid that displays context-related information. You can imagine the whole thing as a kind of digital map that is displayed in the field of vision. It can be controlled using the buttons on the binoculars and the smartphone and the associated app.
Four usage modes available
ENVISION is intended to offer the opportunity to view the sky at night as well as landscapes during the day. It has a total of four usage modes:
- Smart Scouting Mode: In daylight, you’ll see contextual information such as landmarks, water sources, trails, and shelters. However, if you watch the stars at night, the app will provide you with information about what is interesting in your field of vision. It also provides information about nearby points of interest.
- Guided Navigation Mode: With this function, specific locations can be requested or suggested via the app. Stargazing can, for example, become a guided tour through the stars. During the day, the app allows you to discover and identify specific points of interest.
- Shareable Target-Lock Mode: Interesting discoveries can be saved using this mode, so that the smart binoculars are automatically guided to the target if you want to share a discovery with a friend, for example.
- The smart technology of the binoculars can also be used turn offso it can be used as classic binoculars.
