At yesterday’s Paradox announcement showcase, we saw a very familiar model called life is up to you. Why is it familiar? Well, it looks a lot like Paradox’s take on The Sims.
That’s no surprise, considering Life By You is being developed by Paradox Tectonic, led by former Sims studio head and former Second Life CEO Rod Humble.
The very brief trailer shown for Life By You shows a typical suburban neighborhood where players seem to be able to build their own homes. We also get a glimpse inside these homes, where you can see the characters going about their daily lives. Honestly, things look rough around the edges. Check it out for yourself in the video embedded above.
Ultimately, there’s no denying that Life By You looks a lot like The Sims, and consists of the same key mechanics so far. There isn’t much else to mention, and we don’t see any new gimmicks that might set this game apart from other life sims.
With that in mind, it’s not quite clear how Life By You plans to compete with the Sims monolith, but we can be sure (or at least hope) that they have a way to set it apart from its competition. Maybe character relationships go deeper, or build infinite possibilities? who knows? Maybe it’s just a dud.
If you’re as curious as I am about where Life By You is going, Paradox has announced that it will be showing gameplay at M9am PT / 5pm GMT arch 20 On the Life By You YouTube channel!
