We’ll tell you how you can follow the 2022 Formula 1 season on TV and as a live stream. These are the reception options.
- Formula 1 runs on Sky in Germany.
- RTL only shows selected races on free TV.
- The entire season can be seen on free TV in Austria and Switzerland.
Like last year, the 2022 Formula 1 season will no longer be broadcast in full on RTL. Sky holds the exclusive rights in Germany. In Switzerland and Austria, the races can still be seen on free TV – including on ORF Eins, Servus TV and SRF.
Formula 1 live stream and TV
The pay TV channels Sky, ORF, ServusTV and SRF will show the races from the new Formula 1 season on TV and live stream. Sky has set up its own channel with Sky Sport F1, which you can also receive via Sky Ticket.

For Formula 1 you need the Supersport ticket, which is available as an annual subscription from EUR 24.99 per month. If you want to cancel monthly, you pay 29.99 dollars. Currently you can get the annual subscription cheaper. Instead of 24.99 dollars, you only pay 19.99 dollars per month.
The Austrian channels ORF and Servus TV as well as the Swiss channel SRF can only be received from Germany without a VPN in border regions. Otherwise, access will be blocked via country lock.
In the instructions above, we explain how you, as an Austrian, can receive ServusTV and ORF or as a Swiss SRF for free using a VPN service, even on vacation. You can select the appropriate VPN service from the list below.

Formula 1 racing calendar
All races on F1 TV
F1 TV is a live TV app for smartphones. The app is available for both Android and iOS. It gives you access to all Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3 and Porsche Supercup races. It also offers a media library and many other extras.
Follow Formula 1 abroad
Due to the EU portability regulation, many offers are now also readily available in other EU countries and are no longer limited to Germany. Content via Sky Go can now be used without VPN services.
broadcasting rights abroad
Foreign providers also show Formula 1. In the USA, these are the free service Locast, Sling TV (from $25/month), ESPN+ ($5/month or $50/year), Hulu ($44.99/month) and PlayStation Vue (starting at $44.99/month). Depending on the service, you get a seven or five-day test phase.
In Austria, ORF and Servus TV broadcast the races free of charge. In Canada, F1 can be viewed on TSN for CAD$5 per day or CAD$20 per month.
In the UK, Sky Sports F1 broadcasts the sporting event on NOW TV from £9.99 per month. You can test the service for 30 days free of charge. Kayo holds the broadcasting rights in Australia. After a 14-day trial period, you have to pay 25 Australian dollars per month. And on the Indian service Hotstar, you can see Formula 1 for $15 a year.
Beware of free live streams on the Internet
So far, you have been moving in a legal gray area by accessing free Sky live streams on the Internet. You are now making yourself liable to prosecution if you watch such a stream. We therefore strongly advise against using it.
Sky now protects its live streams from pirates with a symbol in the lower left corner of the image. There is also a risk of catching malware on illegal streaming portals.
