Epic Games has launched a promotion to celebrate the Russian invasion of Ukraine in Fortnite. All sales in a specified period should benefit aid organizations that are committed to helping the victims of the war. A huge sum has now been raised.
Epic Games spent two weeks raising money for Ukraine aid. In addition, it had been announced in advance that all sales in the Battle Royale long-running Fortnite should be donated within a specified period. In the meantime, the campaign period is over and the result is a really remarkable sum.
After it was announced that the 100 million dollar mark had already been reached, Epic Games finally raised a whopping 144 million dollars for various organizations to help Ukraine. The focus is on humanitarian efforts by Direct Relief, UNICEF, the World Food Program and more.
Epic Games had cooperated with Xbox for the campaign, which also prompted Xbox boss Phil Spencer to make a statement. He said via Twitter that it was “truly incredible” to see “how the gaming community can make an impact beyond playing games”. He thanks everyone for making this possible and describes the results as really “inspiring”.
Detached from the very successful fundraising campaign, there is also a new update for Fortnite today that brings back some playlists. In addition, the Heavy Sniper Rifle will be revised, which now does more damage to vehicles. Other balance changes have also been made.
