Taking a look at Epic’s hit Fortnite, data miners have found a new, as yet unreleased feature that could add a pinch of GTA to upcoming battles.
We’ll tell you what’s behind it and whether you will soon be able to experience that gangster feeling in the colorful worlds.
What is data mining? Data mining generally means looking into program archives and files using various software tools in order to gain insights. This means that upcoming content or features of games are often discovered – long before they are actually integrated into the live product via an update.

As the above post on X – once called Twitter – shows, dataminers have discovered a takeover mechanic in the works that will help players can steal their opponents’ vehicles
In addition, conditions are defined that lead to a failure of the hijacking and, as a result, to the attacker being pushed away: The vehicle…
- … drives too fast.
- …crashes.
- …takes a sharp turn.
When is the feature coming? Neither we nor the data miners know that. Ultimately, as of today, there is no guarantee that you will ever see the feature in action in Fortnite. At the moment it is just currently unused program code. Epic has not announced anything official regarding such a feature.

Would the hijacking make sense? Yes, definitely, because Fortnite has had a number of vehicles for a while now, whether in Rocket Racing or in Chapter 5 of the third-person shooter part. And the range of applications should grow, so it makes sense to expand the feature base in the code. Of course, exactly what the feature could be used for in the long term remains unclear at the moment.
What do you all mean? Is this an exciting idea that Epic is obviously pursuing for its long-running hit? Or do you think that the dataminers have stumbled upon code that will be built and tested but ultimately discarded? Which feature would you most like to see implemented soon for Fortnite?
