Fortnite: What’s different now with the Unreal Engine 5.1?
That is new: Fortnite had already switched to Unreal Engine 5 in 2021, and with Chapter 4, which was only opened a few days ago, the Battle Royale is now taking the next step. From now on, Fortnite is based on the Unreal Engine 5.1 and thus on new technologies such as Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps and Temporal Super Resolution.
Ultimately, the graphics of Fortnite benefit from this, as high-resolution images are possible without sacrificing the frame rate. Especially reflections on water or shiny surfaces and indoors as well as the lighting shine in new splendor.
In order to get the most out of the new graphics power of the Unreal Engine 5.1, Epic recommends DirectX 12-capable cards such as the GeForce RTX 2080 or Radeon RX5700.
How the internet reacts: On Twitter and Co., players (or those who want to become one) are quite impressed with the Unreal Engine 5.1 and what Fortnite makes of it. We have collected a few meaningful reactions for you:
