As expected, Samsung presented the new Galaxy S24 smartphones at today’s Unpacked event. In addition to the three usual variants, i.e. the regular Galaxy S24 and its Plus and Ultra models, the focus was on another aspect: artificial intelligence.
As Samsung explained at the presentation, the AI dubbed “Gauss” will play an important role on the new cell phones and support many of the fresh features on the Galaxy S24. We show you the five most important AI announcements in the following list.
You are particularly interested in the hardware of the new cell phones. Then take a look at these two pieces of news:
Galaxy S24: »AI Live Translate Call«
One of the highlights of the new Galaxy AI is the function called “AI Live Translate Call”, which was presented a few weeks ago. The feature will be used to translate phone calls in real time; The output is carried out using a computer-generated voice.
At launch, this real-time translation will be available in a total of 13 languages, which Samsung wants to continually expand. You can use the following translation options:
- Europe, English, French, Italian
- Polish, Portuguese, Spanish
- Chinese (simplified), Japanese, Korean
- Hindi, Thai, Vietnamese
Some of the languages are already pre-installed in the factory setting; Samsung did not reveal what exactly these are. Basically, the live translation should run locally on the device.
Galaxy S24: Camera with “Zoom Anyplace” and more
Also already known, but no less important, is the camera function called “Zoom Anyplace”. This means automatic tracking of the identified image motif, which is intended to stabilize the image or video at the same time.
Similar to Google’s “Magic Editor”, the Galaxy S24 should also have a similar AI-based function with which captured camera images can be subsequently edited. For example, distant reflections or the moving of objects to more “suitable” positions were shown.
Galaxy S24 KI: »Circle to Search«
Speaking of Google: The newly announced “Circle to Search” feature is in cooperation with the search engine giant. To use the function, you have to hold down the bottom edge of the screen and then cut out the content on the display in order to then feed it into Google search.
This should work with both your finger and the in-house S Pen, although Samsung of course prefers the input pen.
In Europey, “Circle to Search” will be available from January 31st. As a cooperation with Google, the new function will not only be available for the Galaxy S24 series, but will also be activated for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
Galaxy S24 AI: Keyboard with advanced AI options
The keyboard is probably one of the most frequently used functions on any smartphone – so it makes sense that Samsung is introducing some AI options here too.
With the help of a new icon, texts can be translated literally at the push of a button. But the symbol also hides an additional option to make the writing more beautiful. If instructed, texts can be reworded into more formal language or synonyms can be found for frequently used words.
The exciting question is how long the AI functions will remain free, because experience with ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot has shown that companies see this as a source of income.
At least at the beginning we don’t have to worry, because according to Samsung’s own statement, it “aims to make the functions of Galaxy AI available to all users on supported Samsung Galaxy devices.”
At least until the end of 2025, the company assures that there are no plans to make the Galaxy AI functions chargeable. Of course, we have no influence on third-party applications.
What do you think of the Galaxy S24’s new AI capabilities? Is there a feature you want to try out immediately or are you waiting for another AI feature? Let us know in the comments!
