The video game industry generates more profit than the film and music industries combined. And thanks to the French, nothing will change about that.
Remember: not so long ago, less than a decade ago, you were talking about or writing about a phenomenally successful mobile game on a website specializing in video game news game blog, then prompted widespread outcry and trench warfare in the comments. From video game enthusiasts, of course, but from the real people, not from smartphones and tablets.
Today, for better or for worse (or maybe right in between), France is the European champion when it comes to downloading video games for mobile devices.
A huge and constantly growing market
Little international context first. As reveals the AFJV (Agene fFrench for the JEU video), which shares the conclusions of a data.ai survey, video games would bring in $222 billion in 2022, and mobile games would account for 60% of that total.
We also learn that the video game is more popular on Google Play than on the iOS App Store. In fact, almost half of the 30 billion downloads of all apps on Google Play are video games.
It’s only a quarter in the Apple App Store.
we are the winners
And so, unfortunately, without much more precision, we learn that France is the 1st market for game downloads in Europe, but also that France, with China and Vietnam, was the country that experienced the strongest quarter-on-quarter growth in 2022 in terms of spending the USA and Japan remain the largest markets.
Finally the games. The podium of the most popular titles is as follows: Subway surfers
And then there is Diablo immortalwhose setbacks did not prevent their success, as the AFJV also explains:
Blizzard’s game launched in June amid strong backlash from fans of the franchise over the way microtransactions were introduced. Despite this, the title was instantly popular, with the iPhone version of the game topping the top games by downloads list in 122 markets and in 16 markets on Google Play. In terms of gross earnings, the game achieved #1 gross earnings in more than 27 markets for iPhone and 5 markets on Google Play.
