The success of Elden Ring and Dark Souls seems to be arousing some desires at Sony, as they are apparently toying with purchasing From Software’s parent company.
From Software’s success story is almost fairytale-like and Elden Ring also topped it off financially. From Software has become one of the most popular game developers, but that apparently also arouses desire.
One Report from Reuters According to Playstation manufacturer Sony, it is interested in taking over Kadokawa, the parent company and majority shareholder of From Software, and thus also the studio itself. According to the report, a corresponding deal could be concluded in the next few weeks. According to Reuters, two sources from the environment confirmed this.
Currently, Kadokawa holds a 70% stake in FromSoftware and Sony holds around 14%. Along with other gaming giants like Tencent, Sony already holds a 2% stake in Kadokawa Corporation.
Both companies have not yet commented on the report.
Kadokawa is a Japanese media company operating in various sectors including publishing, film production, television production and digital media. It was founded in 1945 and is headquartered in Tokyo. Kadokawa is known for his publishing of books, manga and video games, as well as his involvement in successful film and television productions. A corresponding deal would expand Sony’s portfolio into other media areas.
Whether the deal will go through and what impact it would have on From Software’s game series remains to be seen.
