After its last two masterpieces, Elden Ring and its DLC, FromSoftware looks to the future and is preparing something big, as it promises.
The extremely prestigious company FromSoftware seems to be at the height of its powers. After almost one excellent game after another, from Bloodborne to Elden Ring and its DLC through Sekiro, the rest of the program is being prepared in the Japanese studio, which obviously still goes against current trends in the industry.
The post-Elden Ring is being prepared at FromSoftware
FromSoftware is probably one of the studios with the most prestigious track record, having released critical and commercial successes for years without interruption. The Japanese studio has achieved the absolute quintessence of its own genre, the Souls-like, with Elden Ring, the GOTY 2022 and its DLC, the highest-rated expansion in history. The team led by Hidetaka Miyazaki seems truly unstoppable. However, the great team led by Hidetaka Miyazaki seems to have put absolutely all its talent and energy into the good of the gigantic excellence of the Elden Ring license.
But FromSoftware is not giving up and is even planning to grow further. After a new recruitment campaign in 2024, the company now employs more than 400 people, an increase of 33% compared to 2020. The talented Japanese studio is thus bucking the trend of the rest of the industry. On the one hand, by recruiting instead of firing, and on the other hand, by developing ambitious and challenging games, while elsewhere the opposite trend is emerging.
A more diverse future?
FromSoftware is therefore preparing for the next chapter of its history, apparently with many projects in the pipeline. If we can hope for Elden Ring 2, perhaps they will be more modest games, without skimping on the studio’s characteristic excellence. In addition, these upcoming games will not be directed by the influential Hidetaka Miyazaki.
« The words you used, such as dark fantasy, difficulty, sense of achievement, describe my values rather than those of society. New directors and designers who are among our talent may not share exactly the same values. I believe this will lead to the birth of a new FromSoftware as well as new types of games that we will develop in the future “, its CEO recently stated. Regardless, we wish them all the best, both with new Souls-like games and those in other genres.
