from software Estimates of how long it will take players to defeat vary widely Elden Ringso it declined to reveal the length of the upcoming “Shadow of the Tree.”
Back in January 2022, a month before Elden Ring took over everyone’s lives, FromSoftware’s Yasuhiro Kitao said that the game’s main story would take around 30 hours to complete. As we’ve all discovered, this is complete nonsense, as Elden Ring is an absolutely massive game. Yes, sure, maybe you can beat the game that quickly on your second playthrough (I know I put 10 hours into the game just to beat Margit), but you’ll never fail that quickly on your first playthrough . Now, in a recent interview with Chinese outlet Bonfire (translated by Swordandflower on Twitter), game director Hidetaka Miyazaki wouldn’t reveal exactly how long Shadow of the Trees is because they had an incorrect understanding of the base game.

“For playtime… I shouldn’t be the one to answer that question,” Miyazaki said. “In an interview I said Elden Ring would take around 30 hours to complete the main game but after it released everyone told me I was lying and that was nowhere near enough time haha! Well as Developers, we’re constantly playtesting and iterating on our games, so we know everything there is to know about the game, so our playtime isn’t a great reference point.”

I imagine, considering the DLC itself will cost you $40, it’s going to be a pretty lengthy experience, although obviously not as big as the base game itself. Luckily, you don’t have to worry about leaving more time for the supposed second expansion, as FromSoftware also recently confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree will be the game’s only DLC.
